SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. In order to establish this connection, you need to have an SSL certificate on your server. In the past, SSL certificates needed to be installed and purchased individually and cost approximately $75 per year.
Security is one of our major concerns and we identified SSL encryption as a feature we wanted to activate for all of our clients. Google also uses SSL as an important signal in ranking sites for SEO. All websites on Beyond Indigo servers are automatically issued an SSL certificate. There is no charge for this service. There is no need to purchase an additional SSL certificate.
How do I know that my site is secure?
In the illustration above, you will see that at the top near the URL, is a small gray lock. This lock may be green or another color depending on what browser you are using, but there will be some symbol there. This is the sign that the site is protected by an SSL certificate. If you see this when you type in https://www.yourdomain.com , your site is secure.
We have been working to get 100% of our sites to automatically redirect to the secure version, whether or not you type in the https:. If you just type yourdomain.com in your browser and are not automatically redirected to the secure site, please submit a ticket.
Our websites don't collect sensitive data that would be compromised even without SSL encryption. Information from the web forms on your site is collected and stored through a third-party service that has always been encrypted.
If you have any questions about your website or data collection security, please don't hesitate to ask us.
